Level Classification
SKIING
- GETTING USED TO THE SKI EQUIPMENT
Getting accustomed to the equipment and the restricted range of movement while wearing ski equipment. Walking, gliding and climbing on gently varied terrain. - GLIDING AND STRAIGHT-RUNNING EXERCISES
Maintaining balance while gliding - SNOWPLOUGH
Gliding with the skis in a snowplough position – learning how to brake and stop.
SNOWBOARDING
- GETTING USED TO THE SNOWBOARD EQUIPMENT
Learning the basic requirements – getting used to the board – getting used to the position – maintaining balance - GLIDING AND STRAIGHT-RUNNING EXERCISES
Getting used to gliding – developing dynamic balance - SIDESLIPPING
Moving the board evenly through controlled sideslipping – forwards and backwards with smooth weight shifts (zigzag sideslipping)
SKIING
- SNOWPLOUGH TURNS
Skiing downhill while changing direction - ALPINE SKIING TECHNIQUE – EDGING
Skiing on the uphill edges - ALPINE SKIING TECHNIQUE – SKIDDING
Releasing the edge grip and steering parallel skis while skidding - STEERED SNOWPLOUGH TURNS
Changing direction by steering on the uphill edges
SNOWBOARDING
- SKIDDED TURNS WITH WEIGHT TRANSFER
Mastering skidded turns with weight transfer on moderately steep terrain - ADVANCED SKIDDED TURNS
Linking skidded turns rhythmically on steeper terrain - CARVED TURNS
Linking carved turns and steering the board along its sidecut
SKIING
- PARALLEL SKIING – LONG TURNS – POLE PLANT – SHORT TURNS
Simultaneous edging, turning and steering of the skis form the basis for parallel skiing with long-radius turns. - POLE PLANT
Used to support balance, unweighting, turning and rhythm - PARALLEL SKIING – LONG-RADIUS TURNS WITH POLE PLANT
Simultaneous edging, turning and steering of the skis while using the pole plant - PARALLEL SKIING – SHORT-RADIUS TURNS
Rhythmically linking changes of direction with short, parallel turns - DYNAMIC PARALLEL SKIING – LONG-RADIUS TURNS
Dynamic changes of direction generated through steering pressure; adapting ski control to the situation; athletic, forward-looking and controlled skiing with medium- and long-radius turns. - DYNAMIC PARALLEL SKIING – SHORT-RADIUS TURNS
Dynamic parallel skiing with short-radius turns and ski control adapted to the situation
SNOWBOARDING
- LOW-POSITION SKIDDED TURNS
Rhythmically linking skidded turns on moderately steep terrain, in deep snow and on mogul slopes - CARVED TURNS WITH BODY ANGULATION
Balancing the inward lean through body angulation – increasing the edging angle while maintaining the same speed – actively counteracting external forces - CARVING WITH UPWARD MOVEMENT
Linking carved turns using an active, dynamic upward movement to unweight and change edges - CARVING WITH DOWNWARD MOVEMENT
Linking carved turns using an active, dynamic downward movement to unweight and change edges - LEG STEERING
Steering the board in short, dynamically carved turns beneath the body through alternating pressure – “LEG STEERING” (without vertical movement) - SHORT TURNS WITH UP-UNWEIGHTING – NEUTRAL RIDING POSITION
Rhythmically linking short skidded turns using up-unweighting on moderately steep and steep terrain, with short, dynamic edge engagement and a neutral riding position - FREERIDING – TECHNIQUE
Learning how to ride safely on ungroomed slopes in open, unsecured terrain
SKIING
- CARVING AND RACE TRAINING – LONG-RADIUS TURNS
Preparation for giant slalom; athletic and controlled skiing at high speeds on hard-packed slopes, with carved long-radius turns - CARVING – SHORT-RADIUS TURNS
Carved changes of direction in short-radius turns using slalom carving skis - STEEP SLOPES
Confident and controlled skiing on steep terrain - MOGULS
Controlled skiing over moguls using flexion and extension movements while turning, with the aim of maintaining constant contact with the snow - DEEP SNOW
Rhythmic and enjoyable skiing in deep snow - DEMONSTRATION & FORMATION SKIING
Skiing in formation with synchronised changes of direction and movements, including to music - FREERIDING
Long turns on wide, open slopes, progressing to steeper terrain with shorter-radius turns and increased speed
SNOWBOARDING
- SHORT TURNS FROM A CENTRED POSITION
Linking short, dynamic turns from a centred riding position - SHORT TURNS WITH UP-UNWEIGHTING
Linking short, dynamic turns using an upward unweighting movement - MOGUL ABSORPTION TECHNIQUE
Riding over mogul terrain by learning absorption techniques involving flexion, extension and rotation, while adapting each turn to the conditions and terrain. - CARVING WITH UPWARD MOVEMENT WITHOUT SNOW CONTACT
Linking carved turns using an active, dynamic upward movement to unweight and change the board’s edges without maintaining contact with the snow. - JUMP TURN
Linking short, carved turns, with lift generated by a quick and dynamic edging movement at the end of the steering phase.
